New Delhi: Some fake medicines for the treatment of cancer patients have been seized from three people in Jasola Vihar in southeast Delhi. The police is investigating whether these spurious medicines were produced in another country.
The police had received information about three people who allegedly sold the counterfeit medicines to the relative of cancer patients at increased cost. The police was informed on Wednesday morning that the three people would visit Jasola Vihar. Sources revealed that a trap was laid and the accused were caught.
Police confiscated over 100 packets of counterfeit medication from the accused. One of the packets had a label mentioning that it was manufactured in Bangladesh and it is being investigated, revealed sources.
When they were asked to show the documents for carrying the medicines, the accused had no answer. They had no documents or medical slips. A total of 73 packets of drugs labelled as Palbocent and Lenvanix (medicines used to treat cancer) were seized from one of the three accused. An officer stated that they also seized medicines labelled as Osicent, Crizocent, Ibrucent from the other two.
Drug inspectors checked the medicines and declared them to be of dubious quality. Sources stated that the police is looking into the links of the three accused in other states and the number of people they deceived.
